Street Food is a whole new category of culture and dining focusing more on traditional food that is easy to prepare and eat.
New York has their hot dog carts and everything else you can imagine. Last time I was in Central Park, I found a crepe food cart!
Austin and Dallas have their Food Trucks located at a Truck yard, rail yards, food truck courts, and always at a farmer’s market! I have found Pizza, Mexican, BBQ, Burgers, Grilled Cheese, and Ice Cream at many of these places.
When traveling with a pilgrimage, in Jerusalem and other locations in the Holy Land, I have founds some very interesting food. In the old part of Jerusalem, the street food can be founds on carts, in small shops along the street, and sidewalks vendors. I have found HUGE sesame bagels, falafel, shawarma, fresh squeezed juice (orange/pomegranate is my favorite), so many sweet treats, and my favorite Baklava!
To fully appreciate a culture, you need to know the language, music, art, and food. Food is something that travels almost as easily as other aspects of a culture. If you are interested in sampling Middle Eastern delicacies, many can be found in the North Texas area. Don’t think you need to go somewhere fancy. If you look closely, you will find small shops focusing on street food even in the small towns in North Texas.
Don’t stop at the bagels and baklava. Enjoy some humus and pita, falafel and bagel, halva for a quick sweet, and Turkish coffee to keep you up all day and night!
Enjoy!
