Big News from Israel – Vaccines and Masks are no longer required for the pilgrims!
However, there are a few other things to remember to keep yourself from getting sick while traveling.
There has been so much discussion in the last few years about masks, vaccinations, and COVID rules. We have forgotten the basics.
I’ve done a little traveling lately to the “hot spots” of COVID infections. What occurred to me is that masks and vaccinations can only do so much. What we really need to do is get back to the basis of hygiene. Wash your hands and clean up after yourself.
Really, it is Biblical. God commanded his people to be ritually clean. When looking at many of the laws, we see that God was also concerned with health and safety, including food safety and how to eat.
We had a successful and healthy pilgrimage this year by remembering the basics when traveling:
- Wash your hands often.
- Carry antibacterial wipes to clean up your space on the plane, train, or motor coach.
- Clean your phone and hand bag often as well.
- We assume each restaurant has cleaned the table and chair, but go ahead and give those a quick wipe down also.
- If you can’t wash your hands before and after you eat, a quick spritz with hand sanitizer can do in a pinch.
This may sound a little over the top, but it is good hygiene. Just like we all learned to brush our teeth and bathe each day, these additional acts of washing hands and cleaning up before and after ourselves will help you stay healthy on your trips. So that you can keep your mind engaged learning about other cultures and enjoy your holiday!
