Boarding the Plane
I boarded a plane this morning from Dallas to New York City. I want to share some of my airline travel observations. As I stood in line to board the plane, I looked around at my fellow passengers. A few moms headed out for a girls weekend, a family followed by two men. All the groups talking about their travel plans or excited to get home. I noticed people of all ages and cultural backgrounds traveling alone and in groups. All of us traveling together and sharing the experience. Generally a feeling of calm, “no big deal” attitude.
I noticed this against the back drop of current events and talking heads interviewing each other and world leaders. So much drama! The TV, phone, tablet all bringing that drama into my personal bubble.
In The Air
Airline travel observations is not just about the people around you in the plane. As I look out the window while flying, all I see are endless blue skies and small patches of land and a few cities. This view always puts things into perspective. The HUGE insurmountable issues juxtaposed against the view from a plane almost makes me feel silly worrying over issues. God sees us in both ways up close and in a continuum against history and the future.
A Pilgrimage state of mind
I get a similar feeling when traveling to the Holy Land, reading Bible passages in the place where those events took place. I get a tiny snippet of visualizing world history next to the Holy Site and thinking of the millions of people who have been touched by that experience. Somehow, this changes my priorities and adjusts my view of “self importance”. I also begin to ponder the question, “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose?” “What is God doing in my life?”
A trip to the Holy Land or even a deep dive study of the Holy Land can help put perspective and meaning into your life when all around seems meaningless and chaotic.
Why Faith Connections Travel?
The mission of Faith Connections Travel is to provide an opportunity to create a deeper connection to our faith through travel. Our connection begins before boarding the plane and taking note of airline travel observations. Our faith connections through travel begin with the pre-trip study and concluding with a pilgrimage. The pilgrimage we are offering is an opportunity for you to travel with us to the Holy Land (all information is under itinerary and pricing). Included in the cost is a 6 week pre-trip study to prepare each pilgrim to experience the Holy Land in greater depth. We learn the importance of the site from the Biblical view, world view, historical view, and geographical view. The final “class” is the pilgrimage in the Holy Land where each pilgrim can experience the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Holy Land.
What’s new?
We feel the pre-trip study is an important and life changing opportunity and is included in the cost of the trip. However, if travel is not in your budget or you are past your travel prime, we are opening this opportunity to all at a small fee. This is your opportunity to take the pilgrimage in a virtual way. Those who participate in the pre-trip study will have access to videos and updates during the pilgrimage and take the trip with us. If this interests you, please see the evite link below to our meeting schedule. Make time for our meet and greet to try out a session and sign up. Please contact Tina for questions.
Travel Tips with Tina
Tina’s part of the pre-trip study is always “Travel Tips With Tina”. Here is your tip for this blog: Always accept the beverage offered on the plane. If you bring a soda on the plane you run the risk of having it explode (planes don’t have secure cup holders like cars and stadiums). If the soda explodes upon opening you will sit in sticky clothes until your destination. Yes, true story, the mask came in handy to quickly wipe up the spill!
Snacks on a plane. If you like trail mix, get the complimentary pretzels and add them to the candy purchased at the airport. It is a different little treat! (I prefer peanut butter m&m’s.)
